A Resolution I Can Do

My  resolution is totally awesome.  My friend J is doing this and I'm jumping on the bandwagon. It's not a New Year's resolution, just a regular resolution because I started on Christmas Day. I'm going to read 50 books* by next Christmas.  This shouldn't be too hard for me because I'm a book geek.  I love reading.  I like books better than movies.  I loved AP English.  Growing up I slept with books under my pillow (I think all my siblings did, too).  I'll read pretty much any genre.  Okay, not so much science fiction or fantasy.  But everything else.

Here's what I've read so far:

1.  "Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown   710 pages
2.  "The Five Love Languages" by Gary Chapman   203 pages
3.  "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows" by J.K. Rowling   759 pages

These were all books I received for Christmas.  Dan Brown books are much better than the movies.  Harry Potter books are much better than the movies.  I already knew that because I had read the books before.  But I'm still counting them toward my goal of 50.

"The Five Love Languages" was given to us by my parents.  The book is based on the idea that there are five love languages, or ways to give and receive love - quality time, words of affirmation, gifts, acts of service, and physical touch (descriptions if you scroll down a bit here). Though all five languages are important in a relationship, we need to receive our primary love language to feel loved and without it, we may feel neglected or discouraged. Besides helping you discover your own language, the book helps you figure out what languages others are and how you can show your love to them by using their love language.

I really enjoyed this book.  It definitely made me think how I can better show my love to others.  And it gave lots of realistic examples and suggestions how to do so.  My primary love language is quality time, though I  appreciate all five languages and would notice if one was missing in our relationship.  Luckily for me, T is really great at showing me all five.  Here's a good summary of the book.  I think everyone should read this book regardless of their relationship status.  I'll lend you our copy if you want to read it.

Don't worry, I won't be giving reviews of every book I read.  But I will let you know if one is especially great or horrible.

* I'm pretty sure I will read more than 50 books.
