Yesterday the space shuttle Discovery flew over D.C. on it's way to the Udvar Hazy Air and Space Museum. T and I had talked about it on the way into work that morning and wondered if we would see it. On the drive home after dropping T off I saw tons of people waiting to see it on the Lincoln Memorial, Memorial Bridge, and the Air Force Monument. I decided to try to see the shuttle from the Air Force Monument, but couldn't find parking so I just went home.
I was almost home when T texted me that it was supposed to fly over soon. So I quickly parked and went out to our balcony and literally there it was. I took a few iPhone photos that weren't very good.
These pictures don't do it justice. It was incredibly low and incredibly big. The shuttle is the size of a regular plane and the plane that the shuttle is strapped to is even bigger and together they are just ginormous.
Tyler snapped this one with his iPhone from his work patio.
A zoomed in view
It was pretty cool. Here is a link to NBC 4 in Washington that has a short story, some cool raw video, and some photos. Or if you just want to see a better picture of the shuttle with some DC sites here ya go:

Such fun! Are you going to see it at the Smithsonian?
ReplyDeleteThat is really neat. How awesome is that things like that happen from your balcony's view!
